Chameleon IPA from Center of the Universe, 2018-ongoing
I started this page as my August 2018 COM, but since the variations continue to come out I decided to make it a regular page. The original COM still is under my Cans of the Month section though. This series of cans comes from Richmond's Center of the Universe brewery. It's an unusual concept. They keep the brand name, but every six weeks or so they issue it in a new variation of flavors, each marked by a different colored label.
Here is the whole label. They all have the same design.
According to Style Weekly, "Brewers will use different hop blends for each version of the Chameleon India Pale Ale, while maintaining a consistent grain bill. Because of the wide range of hop varieties, the beer's aroma and taste will change with each version. And so will the color of the cans."
The colors
Dark Green March 2018 |
Dark Blue April 2018 |
Orange May 2018 |
Red June 2018 I saw this one labeled as "Brown" in one store. |
Light Blue July 2018 |
Yellow September 2018 |
Black October 2018 |
Cranberry October? Not sure if this is a different version, or just a color variation from the earlier red. Mine has an October date on the bottom, but I still lean towards it just being an inadvertent color variation from the label printer. Until the brewery updates its website, I can not be sure. |
White December 2018 |
Green/Yellow 2019 The yellow turns green when the can is cold (left) and back to yellow as it warms up (right)! |
Silver/Green Late 2020 |
