Surprise Variations
Just a quickie this month. I make a habit of picking up cans I see at shows to look for variations. I don't do it will all cans, but I do it if several factors are present.
1. It's a can where I actually care about even small variations. That's only a few brands; basically Gunther, Primo, and anything from Heurich.
2. It's not expensive.
3. I am not 100% certain that I do not already have it.
Sometimes it pays off. At the 2019 Blue-Gray show at the Dulles Hilton I saw a recent Primo "Big Bruddah" in a friend's 50 cent box. I really like Primos, and have covered Primo cans a couple times before, starting in March 2004. I knew I had one already, but grabbed this one in case there was some small difference. When I got home, there was a difference. My original one has a silver background. The one I just found had a white background. I needed it! That's not a huge detail, but I do like finding Primo variations. This makes the 35th Primo on my shelf. I know of at least three others that I do not yet have, not counting some test cans with paper labels.
Sorry this is so short and not that significant. Between packing to move to a new home, plus my normal class prep, plus trying to write my next book, my time is a bit short. I will try to do better next month.
